Incorporating a green smoothie into your diet can be a quick way to support essential vitamin and mineral consumption. However, many green smoothie recipes out there are high in sugar due to excessive fruit. Unlike those, this smoothie recipe prioritises vegetables and a quick preparation time – perfect for fitting into a busy lifestyle.

Quick and Easy

As a uni student, I have incorporated ingredients that are not only cheap to buy but also quick and easy to throw into the blender. That said, it is important to add the ingredients in a particular order to ensure that the dark leafy greens are thoroughly pureed for a smooth texture.

Using water over coconut water makes this recipe more cost-effective; however, you can substitute it if preferred. Spinach and kale are the main components of this recipe as dark leafy vegetables are nutrient-dense; adding mint is optional. Green apples are used over red as they are high in fibre and less sweet which I find helps me to stop craving sweet foods. The frozen pineapple and banana are used sparingly as I try to reduce my amount of sugar but more or less can be added depending on preference and they will add a creamy texture to the smoothie.
